Dear Parents/Guardians,

This correspondence comes to you regarding two major topics---EDLINE AND PROGRESS REPORTS ON YOUR SON/DAUGHTER.  As we make the transition to an online computerized recording of assessments, assignments, curriculum, and student progress by our teachers, you should be aware of the following developments and initiatives: 

  • Our teachers will have assessment results available on Edline commencing on October 1, 2007.  The goal is to have weekly updating of all assessments to coincide with assignments and classroom activities after October 1st.
  • For the first marking period, we will be mailing PROGRESS/DEFICIENCY REPORTS TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE AN AVERAGE THAT FALLS BELOW 75%.
  • Future mailing of Progress/Deficiency reports will not be mandatory for our teachers since the availability of your son or daughter’s current academic status will be readily available on Edline.  However, teachers will make every effort to maintain communication with parents of students who are in moderate to severe academic difficulty throughout the school year. 
  • If any parent continues to be in need of their activation code to log on to Edline, please call our district Edline Help number at 610-863-6544
  • Please be cognizant of the fact that we sincerely believe that the more informed you are of your son/daughter’s academic progress, the more closely we can work together to ensure success.
  • For those parents who may not have access to a computer, computers are available at Kmart in Wind Gap and the Blue Mountain Library in Pen Argyl (despite the location of the computer you decide to use, the need for your personal activation code continues to be necessary to view your child’s records).  Moreover, we will continue to address any phone calls seeking assistance with the academic status of any of our students.

PEN ARGYL AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT

OPERATION SECURITY

 

OBJECTIVE: TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH MAJOR DISTRICT POLICIES RELATED TO POSSESSION OR USE OF DRUGS, ALCOHOL, AND WEAPONS.

 IMPLEMENTATION: WHERE STUDENTS ARE IN ATTENDANCE RELATED TO A SCHEDULED SCHOOL SPONSORED FUNCTION SUCH AS DANCES, FIELD TRIPS, ETC.

 

  • STUDENTS ARE SUBJECT TO A PAT DOWN/FRISK SEARCH BY SECURITY PERSONNEL TO ASCERTAIN THAT THEY ARE NOT IN POSSESSION OF WEAPONS AS WELL AS POSSESSION OR INFLUENCE OF ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES. MALE SECURITY WILL FRISK MALES AND FEMALE SECURITY WILL FRISK FEMALES. ANY BAG, PURSE, PACK, ETC. MUST BE OPENED FOR A SEARCH OF ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES BY SECURITY PERSONNEL.
  • UPON A DISCOVERY OF ANY VIOLATION OF SCHOOL DISTRICT POLICY, THE MANDATED PROCEDURES WILL BE ACTIVATED IMMEDIATELY. THE HIGH SCHOOL AGENDA BOOK HAS THE DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY LOCATED ON PAGES 69-73 AND THE VIOLENCE/WEAPONS POLICY IS LOCATED ON PAGES 40-42.
  • A STUDENT WHO REFUSES TO SUBMIT TO A SECURITY SEARCH WILL LOSE HIS/HER PRIVILEGE TO ATTEND THE SCHOOL SPONSORED EVENT; WILL BE EVALUATED BY THE POLICE ON THE PREMISES; WILL BE SUBJECT TO ALL APPLICABLE SCHOOL DISCIPLINARY POLICIES, AND SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVES WILL CONTACT THE STUDENT S PARENT(S).
