PEN ARGYL AREA HIGH SCHOOL
SEPTEMBER 2007

THE PEN ARGYL AREA HIGH SCHOOL HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE HAS SELECTED THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUALS TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME. THE CEREMONY WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER15, 2007 AT HALF-TIME OF THE FOOTBALL GAME VS. SOUTHERN LEHIGH HIGH SCHOOL

MR. STEVEN “SOX” LOBB
(Class of 1968):

Steven was an outstanding two-sport athlete for the Green Knights during the late 1960’s.  He was a member of both Football and Track and Field teams, earning nine Varsity letters during his high school career.  Steve was most successful on the Track where he was a Pennsylvania State Champion in the Low Hurdles in 1968.

Steve’s other athletic accomplishments include:

            Starting Tailback and Cornerback
            3 year letter winner

            3 year 100 Yard Dash Finalist
            3 year 220 Yard Dash Finalist
            3 year 180 Yard Low Hurdles Finalist
            1967 & 1968:  180 Yard Low Hurdle Champion

            2 year 180 Yard Low Hurdle State Finalist
            1968:  180 Yard Low Hurdle State Champion
Records Held:
            PAHS 100 Yard Dash, 10.2 seconds
            PAHS & District XI 180 Yard Low Hurdles, 19.6 seconds
            PAHS 220 Yard Dash, 22.9 seconds

          Steve continued his education at Albright College where he was a three-year starter on the Football Team.  In 1971, he was named First Team All Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Back.  Steve also enjoyed playing Rugby on the Cincinnati City Rugby Team for three seasons after graduating college.
          Steve currently resides in Virginia with his wife Tish.  He also has a daughter named Stephanie and a son named Brian.  Steve also helped coach the Northern Virginia Boys Select League Soccer for six years. 

 

MS. LORNA DENTITH
(Class of 1962):

 

Lorna Dentith was four-year member of the Pen Argyl Girls Basketball Team.  She played for legendary Coach Vivian Wagner, who led the Lassies to many successful seasons during the 1960’s. 
Lorna got a taste of success, as a sophomore, when her team upset the league leading Wilson team 39-34, ending a six-game losing streak. 
The following season the Lassies captured Pen Argyl’s first ever Lehigh-Northampton League Girls Basketball Championship by beating Wilson 28-22 in the final game.  The Lady Knights finished the season with only two league losses and Loretta DeNicuola set a new school record, scoring 107 points.
          As a senior, Lorna led the Lassies to its best season ever and second consecutive Lehigh-Northampton League Girls Basketball Championship by beating Nazareth 37-23.  The team had only 2 losses all season and scored 62 points in one game.  Lorna also broke Lorretta’s record by scoring 125 points in the season. 
          Lorna is currently living California, between San Francisco and Sacramento, where she is employed as a Dental Hygienist that specializes in soft tissue Laser Therapy.  She enjoys golf and tries to play 3-4 times a week.  Lorna has three lifetime hole-in-ones, with two in the last two years.

 

 

MR. VAL CAESAR
(Class of 1961):

 

          Val was a two-sport athlete at Pen Argyl Area High School participating in both Football and Baseball.  He lettered in Football his junior and senior years and played offensive center and outside linebacker. 
          Val’s true skills were displayed on the baseball diamond, where he was a three-year letter winner at shortstop.  He played on two Lehigh-Northampton League Championship teams in 1959 and 1961.  Val’s three-year varsity career in baseball included a .443 lifetime batting average.  His senior year he led the Green Knights to a Lehigh-Northampton League Championship and batted an astounding .591 with 4 home runs and 21 RBI’s.
          Val was named First Team All Lehigh-Northampton League Shortstop in both 1960 and 1961.  He went on to play Baseball at Penn State University as a 3rd Baseman.  His baseball career was abruptly ended by a severe ankle injury in 1963.  He also coached the Green Knight Baseball Teams from 1989-1999.

 

MS. ROSEMARY “RONI” GRUBE
(Class of 1979):

Roni Grube was an outstanding multi-sport athlete at Pen Argyl High School participating in Tennis, Basketball and Softball.  Roni played first singles and doubles and qualified for the District XI Tournament her junior and senior years. 
In 1976-77, Roni played along side Donnie Dentith to capture the first ever District XI Mixed Doubles Tennis Championship.  As a senior, Roni and Laura Smith placed second in the District XI Doubles Tennis Tournament.

Roni’s other athletic accomplishments include:

          Roni continued her education at Bloomsburg University, where she attained a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.  She participated in both Basketball and Softball and was a member of the 1982 A.I.A.W. Division III National Softball Team.  She also received a Masters of Education from Marygrove College in Detroit, MI.
          Roni currently teaches math and coaches softball in Southern Lehigh School District for the past 20 years.  She is also a P.I.A.A. Field Hockey Official.

 

MR. DONALD CARBONE
(Class of 1951):

 

Donald Carbone was a multi-sport athlete at Pen Argyl High School in the early 1950’s.  He participated in Football, Basketball and Baseball earning 9 varsity letters during his career. 
          Donald’s true talents were apparent on the grid iron, where he played running back and defensive back for the Green Knights.  In 1950, he carried the ball 70 times for 583 yards, averaging an incredible 8.3 yards per carry.  Donald regularly made big plays for Green Knights and usually was good for a touchdown and an interception every game.  He once led the Green Knights to a victory over a great Northampton team by scoring three touchdowns.
          Donald also played second base on the Pen Argyl Baseball Team, where his team went undefeated in the Lehigh-Northampton League and were also crowned District XI Champions in 1951.  He was also a member of the 1951 Blue Mountain League Championship Team.
          Donald continued his education at East Stroudsburg, where he participated in Football until graduation in 1957.  He then taught in Northampton School District for 33 years.  He coached Football, Softball and Baseball for many years and lead Northampton’s Legion team to a State Championship.  Donald was a long time supporter of high school athletics and regularly was seen at many games around the Lehigh Valley.
